Just started Sea Dogs: To each his own on Steam. Current version is in Beta and is absolutely playable in English. Translation is a little rough, but is clearly understandable. I am still on Martinique (island one) and am not sure what’s going on, but game has the look and feel of COAS/GoF/ERAS. Joruba says release date is 12 Feb. I wasn’t sure this game would ever actually be released in English and am pleasantly surprised.
Check it out, Ted -

How is it? Is it worth buying?

I like it, but it still needs work on the syntax. Translation is somewhat rough. Game its self plays well, although harder than necessary for casual gamers. Still it’s fun to play and remind me of the other games in the series. I bought it on sale for like five bucks. I think regular price is $14.99, so it’s still a great deal. Give it a try, I think you will like it.

I’m not searching for conflict, but in my view ” harder than necessary ” says everything about the game.
Quitted playing after 2 days. Will never try again.
It is not flexible, rigid. There is no joy in playing this version.
It’s like the most frustrated human on earth tryed to make others unhappy too:)MK i wish you good health.

I’ve stopped playing after a series of crashes happening always in the same point, at the beginning of the game.
Will probably restart in the next days, but reading all the discussions on its Steam page confirms what you said. I’m not expecting much now, just hope it won’t get so frustrating to force me to quit permanently.

Well I still plan to write a review and critique on the game. However, I need to play a little first and I just haven’t had the time to. I am still working hard on the MEGA PATCH for GOF ERAS2 and I’ve been off playing in the Caribbean the last two weeks (See my historic article on the top of the Home page on the DUTCH WEST INDIES).
I would like to promote it and get some discussions going about it, but from everything I am hearing this game is starting to scare me a little. It seems like it may be geared for “hardcore” difficulty right out of the gate. COAS is hard enough on the easy settings. In fact Jeffrey just watered down some of the skills of super hard enemy opponents in some of the quests to make things a little more balanced and realistic.
I have to agree with RAM. If a game is TOO HARD, it becomes tedious and a chore rather than something that is fun and for relaxation. You always want a challenge, SURE! However, you also want to have fun and that’s part of the ART of good game design. In the words of Goldilocks when eating the three bears porridge: “This one’s too HOT! This one’s too COLD! This one is JUST RIGHT….” That’s what I have been trying to achieve with ERAS for years now. A pirate and age of sail game that is “JUST RIGHT”.
I hope Sea Dogs: To Each His Own, isn’t as hard as everyone is saying, because I want to like it AND I want to have FUN playing it.
Thoughts???

I restarted the game, only to stop playing again after a while, specifically after leaving the first island.
From my point of view, the problem is not the difficulty, rather the way you are “forced” to play: I experienced no freedom in my gameplay, you have to play exactly as the developers intended, and if you don’t, you can even break the game logic, sometimes with the subsequent impossibility to continue!
Maybe I wasn’t patient enough, maybe after leaving the first island I can finally play the way I want, but I got so disappointed in the first part of the game that I stopped playing entirely.
I hope the will give players the option to start freely, without being compelled to rigidly follow a storyline since the first minute.

Good points. Someone posted a survey over on Pirates Ahoy! http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/this-or-the-previous-games.26937/#post-534616
The guy was asking which was better COAS or TEHO.
Ben Coats chimed in that he liked TEHO better once you got finished with the initial quest and could free play. So maybe its worth it to nug it out and get to that point and then level up.
He had a very good list of Pros and Cons worth considering…
I think I am gonna have to substitute their Tortuga from what he is saying. I already have plans for the crypts.
Flannery jumped in and gave his two cents. Its obvious he hasn’t played ERAs that much even though he did mention us. ERAS has many ships that New Horizons does not. Including remade and reskinned VCO models, TEHO models, GIC models and others. He sounded a bit on the patronizing side. Who could he be kissing up to I wonder??? he he he…
Also ERAS has direct sail. Maybe someone will set him straight. Not me of course! HA! LOL
