If you wish you can look at the following as a sort of short editorial from yours truly – me. I am going to rant just a little because I saw something today that just chaps my hide and really gets my gusto up and plain pisses me the hell off.
If you have spent any time around here at all you know that myself (or members who I ask to be my agent [like Galleon or Dennis]) – that we frequently ask creators, modelers, composers, other modding or gaming groups, etc. for permission to use their content.
We are usually successful in this regard and those groups or individuals are more than happy to give us their content/ creations provided we give credit to them.
If you have read any of my past posts regarding this common acquisition process we have around here for bringing in new content you know that I ALWAYS make a BIG DEAL about this when we get new stuff. I made a big deal about it when the Polish modders game me their Glory of the Sun King content. I made a big deal about it when Russian groups have given us new stuff like the helmet code we are implementing. I always make a HUGE DEAL about it when modellers give us new ships!!!
When YO HO HO (Sir Anthony Deane) from the German forum gave us his GORGEOUS CREATIONS I about died and went to heaven and I am still so thankful to him for doing that for us. I always let those guys know that if there is anything we can do for them to please ask us and we will be happy to help and trade.
I know I have probably driven Jeffrey crazy a little because I have inadvertently signed him up to help some of these folks with their own projects when they give us new stuff. He always rises to the occasion and always finds solutions for them even though I know he enjoys working much more on his own list of changes that he is most passionate about or on our own priority list.
When I was a member of another pirate gaming forum I always made a big deal out of getting new ships and I was a big driving force behind why there were so many new ships getting into our gaming projects there. I made a huge deal out of it when Joruba from the Blackmark team gave us permission to use their resource content(ships/characters) and promoted the heck out of their game and efforts while I could. However, after I was given the boot, that recognition of individual contributors and thanks for their contributions just hasn’t been continuing – which I find a damn shame. Yo Ho Ho’s threads showing his new ships were virtually ignored when he put them up. I almost jumped out of my skin.
If those folks are wondering why no one contributes there anymore they should just take a look at their own very lax practices – or complete lack of. I always said they didn’t care about getting new ship models and what has been going on the last few years and happened once again today just proves my point.
Take a look at this post. http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/pirates-of-the-burning-sea-potbs.28971/#post-564085
Not only do they have the source completely wrong. That this model came from POTBS(WHICH IT MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT!), only ONE of their own staff members could even name the model – even though he doesn’t know where it came from either.
What a complete slap in the face. If I were that modeler I would feel really hurt and unrecognized. I would be like “why should I make anything else for these guys if they don’t even know who contributes”.
So I will tell you who this modeler is because we got his kind permission to use two of his creations in our own game. One is the model you see in the screenshots in the post which in our game is French East Indiaman. The model was originally of a Swedish Indiaman – the Gothenburg I believe. The other model is a beautiful little swift swept-back one masted sloop. Orazio has her but he is working on a lot of models right now and that one is low on the priority list.
This modeler is PhillipJN and the brother of another fine modeler SeaNorris – the modeler of the beautiful Neptunus variants. SeaNorris at one time even offered to finish Kris Wood’s Zeven Provincien but I was always hoping Kris would return and finish it himself.
When we got those models I openly recognized Phillipjn and thanked him for the models and featured screenshots of the Indiaman in our screenshots thread. This is just the right thing to do. So maybe one of you who reads this over here may want to chime in over there (since I can’t due to being banned there) and give this fine modeler the recognition he deserves.
So I would again like to say THANK YOU to PhillipJN for his beautiful models and thanks also to his brother SeaNorris for all of his fine contributions as well. Thanks to all of the great modelers and contributors who have given us so much this last year. Your content will always be part of our free download and I can assure you that nothing you have given us will ever be used commercially. We appreciate your enthusiasm for the subject, your artistic talent and your patience and attention to detail to produce these beautiful and meticulous works of art!
MY WARMEST HEARTFELT THANKS FROM ALL OF US AT BUCCANEER’S REEF!!!!
Just so you know – if you are a modeler and you give us your fine works of art here – we will truly recognize your fine work (hundreds of hours in many cases) and treat you like a god!
