Hi, dear All.
Just to salute you and say I was out for quite a lapse of time, but I hope to finally get back.
Now I downloaded the mod itself… Sure could not launch it, used ancient Maelstrom on that, and it never advances more that character selection menu. I quite guess the new Maelstrom is out there somewhere buried inside some stash under a couple of meters of sand in Google Drive =). Would appreciate a tip where to dig.
Salute to All!

Hi, Jeffrey and MK! Nice to salute you again.
I updated the game. Starting with Jeffrey’s Loyalty updates, I applied first the Eras2.8Loyalty of 210.7Mb update, then the 20.8Mb x64 update, then the 395Mb MK Member Loyalty patch…
Suddenly I got a mess. Maelstrom.exe cannot find any of the libraries. Appcrash.
Could you please explain me what are the exact files and their exact order that I need to have and extract? Thanks beforehand!!!

Hi MK and Jeffrey, and everyone!
I was a little bit away from the topic, but finally I am back.
Could you please kindly mention, what is the way to obtain the freshest version? I understand that there has been a lot of advance since the last time we have saluted here.
There is a base 2.6 game. What else updates should I need to get the freshest? I remember putting some updates but now I am all confusion, I’d better reinstall.
BTW, is there any plan to arm a SVN or something like that, to be able to live sure that the version is the freshest, as well to protect ourselves from that so called dumb factor?
Thanks in advance!

Jeffrey, OMG, I just read all these details you write, all the situations you managed to figure out, and realize that you are a true master! It is such a success you are part of the team! Deep deep respect for you! I just remember the only game modding I have ever done was installing new cars made by other people into Carmageddon II and configuring races and parameters in simple txts… Ahaha! =)
Keep it rolling!

Hi, MK, Jeffrey, Orazio! Hi everyone!
Incredible to see the ammount of work you keep putting in the project despite all the obstacles! Keep it going!
Are there any plans to compile an all-in-one fresh version for download? Or to fix that SVN-type thing?

Oh! Another solution might be to organise a SVN! I have seen the diferent modders use SVNs, make commits, and as a result, the whole work is better organised between the team members, and the simple mortal users always have the freshest version to enjoy and report bugs and stuff… The revisions have numbers, so it is possible to feedback different revisions and on the other hand to avoid the community might have different game instances, like we have at the moment (I have a release with a patch with some Jeff’s first updates… I feel it is a complete salad!). It also permits to have the updates saved in case of such an individual hardware failure, not to fall back a whole month’ work.

Modern Knight, hi again, it is me here. I spent another day playing, and unfortunately feel I am doing something wrong. Sorry for being a complete noob, I am just trying to master the game… And I keep getting somewhat unrewarding experience while enjoying the setting and the models of the ships you have done.
Firstly, I have already understood it is better not to fight with anyone, to pay gold to every offender… That gives me chance to survive for some time. I understood that cannons do shoot, but require skills, crew, food, rum, powder, cannonballs… And I have no useful effect of my cannons on my starting ship, it is cheaper to pay 120-140 coins compared to repairing the ship later. The seas are loaded with the pirates, I have seen about six of them near three towns. I do not feel I will be able to pay to all of them or escape from all of them. Neither I feel it is realistic that the very moment you leave a port, there is a high chance there is a privateer hunting you and almost ignoring other ships.
I started working peaceful quests for deliveries.
The problem is that I am not that acquainted with the map and the time period. So I tried to enter some port just to humbly repair my ride, and they shot me there. So the question, do you, and other guys, know by heart which city belongs to which country, and remember/know current political relationship between the parties? For me it is a complete mess, unfortunately. Other games (two shallow Android pirate games in comparison to ERAS – Pirates and Traders and The Pirate: Caribbean Hunt) do provide noob-user friendly interface to understand which guys and ports will attack you and which won’t, and a Reputation screen to understand who and how much likes/hates you. As well, I explore the map with Tab while going 0,5 speed to try to find locations I need… It is difficult. As well, Merchant Winds quest log do not provide island name of the destination port, and the map does not provide city names… So I need to force my memory not to forget where to go, while searching where it is… And confusing myself till forgetting where should I go.
How do you navigate, MK and people of the Reef?! Is it possible to update the map with “classic” red/green colors? The Reputation screen between the PC and the nations? The dotted line to the destination depending on the active quest selected? I know I might be asking for too much, I know it is a old game, but I am just asking for some basic ergonomics, like automatic gearbox, airbags and ABS breaks for a modded VW Beetle.
Ehm, I somewhat passed the tutotial fight with two crew members (oh! finally!), just for the reason of using constantly the spacebar, click them to death while one of them was stuck between the cannons. And yes, I learned to step back while seeing the crushing hit animation. Anyway, the fighting experience is weird, as compared to M&B, for example, where it is more logical to me.
Ohhhh! Sorry for all of that… Please suggest me what to do, because I do not manage to sail, trade, shoot and fight as expected in modern games. Sure, it is a hardcore simulator, it is no arcade game, but I feel it too complicated for a somewhat casual player for the genre. Sorry again, did not mean to offend anyone, please help with some piece of advice.

Hey, MK! I logged in just to salute you and cheer you up! By the way, I am playing rarely for the reason I have not mastered the blade fight. I know, it is a total shame, but it is true. My play style in modern days is ironman style, I mean, I try to avoid save-load tampering… Are you planning any updates for the manual fighting mechanism?

MK, hello again!
Please stay with us, we do really appreciate the mod you are doing! I remember visiting your moddb page, I remember having asked you there to keep up excellent work and include me in the list of the people you might share the mod with, I remember your explanations, I remember myself waiting for your new site, reading threads…
I have seen this small but faithful community of yours grow here on the reef…
I guess I understand your feelings as of the creator who requires more attention, more passion for the project, more involvement from the fans, not only “liked/did not like” comments. You do all the job and might find sometimes sad the people won’t hit but a pair of buttons to comment something, explore something or just give you the attention and humanly chat with you.
So, please, stay with us, you do have the community of yours that love and respect your hard work.
Sincerely yours,

Ehm what do you mean you have problems with resolution?
First time I started the game the resolution was fine. Then I happened to launch config.exe by curiosity and did not find anything of interest, only lost my resolution. Config.exe was giving me only two resolutions that do not fit my screen.
So I went to engine.ini, opened it with notepad, put
screen_x = 1600
screen_y = 900manualy saved the file and here we go! Obviously, you may put the numbers you want there, not only 1600X1900.
That is why I am silent about the resolution! =)

Hey, that is me again. I noticed that the logbook gives an error omitting the location’s destination in store merchant’s quests (Merchant winds I guess). I mean “asked to deliver to Port Orange in .”. And after the “in” it is empty.
So it is essential to remember where to when you receive the merchant’s quest, if you are not familiar with the region map, as in my case. The Logbook won’t help you much since it gives name of the port, not the name of the island.
MK, when you will be fixing that issue, I suggest you might please add the nation’s name of the port of the destination to the merchant’s speech when he gives the job, ex: “british Port Royal”? Please? Because it used to happen that I come to the destination port to deliver the goods and get killed by the ships in the bay because it happened to be a port of an enemy nation 😀

Well, I started Dutch, put low encounters. Almost manage to evade ships. A useful tip may be is to speak to enemy ships approaching (enter-speak to) and offer them gold. They charge 160 – 180 pieces of eight and turn neutral so it is possible to escape to map and there the first thing is to press W to go away not to be caught again 🙂

Thanks, MK. Will go to try the mod again. As you say, it is a really hard game, but beautiful thanks to your efforts. As I understand, there is no option to make my crew board enemy ships without me participating directly? Like in android “Pirates and Traders” game?
