This is a place to share a narrative and visual log of what’s happening to you. This was something that Luke159 and myself first started on PA! and we filled it with stories about our current game experiences. Many people joined in and it was a fun topic.
Give me a day or so to post my current game here to get us started. However if someone else wants to jump in please do. With over 300 downloads I’m assuming there are a lot of good games going right now. Tell me about them!!!

Correspondence of Captain John Berry with his fiance,
1st January 1666
Dear Sweethearth,
If i had known how harsh the environment can become in the Carribbean, I would have never set sail in that small boat these sailors call “ship”, as you already know since i set out from Maryland the Journey was nothing but a chain of negative events that made it seem like god had forsaken us. Chased by Pirates, then Overwhelmed by a Storm, I really did not think it could have become much worse. Now after the storm, the sailors made me captain, our former captain died when a mast broke his neck.
Since I saw that this ship wouldnt do any good, i sold it and lingered on in the streets of St. John.
A stranger on the streets begged me to come into a cellar, what looked like a damsel-in-distress turned out to be a murderer that wanted to kill me.
I fought bravely and defeated that wretch, took his money and his weapons, and went to gamble in the
tavern.
After 3 days and 3 nights I managed to aquire enough to buy a 6th rate ship, hired a small crew, mostly the men that were with me in the beginning, and began to pirate my way through the Carribbean.1st January 1667
Dear Catherine,
One year has it been when i last wrote you a letter, and i still dont know if it managed to reach you or if you still clueless what has happened to your Johnny.
If you compare me with the man that you knew with the man I am now, you wouldnt be able to find similarities.
Oh, the amount of people i killed and amount of ships i sunk is beyond count to me, It became like just another day, a day in which I try to keep my crew fed, my chests full of money and my crew morale up.
Bounties are on my head by the dutch and I have to look twice each turn I go, always being aware of my surroundings.
The English praise my endevours and my new ship is a Dutch 4th rate Frigate with 60 guns. Its a fine ship she is and I called her Catherine in your honor.
I went on many adventures and I had many men fall in my name on many boarding battles.
How I am still alive is a mystery to me. I keep dreaming of battles where I seemingly died, only to wake up to see Im still alive and well and the battle is yet to come.
I have made some friends, 2 in fact that stayed alive for a year now and they are now my closest officers that command most of the aspects of my ship.
Officers I mistrust, Id usually keep as bodyguards, you know the phrase, Catherine, keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
I think I will switch to the dutch someday as they seem to have less enemies and are more peaceful people in comparison to the other nations.1st January 1668,
Cathrine,
I cannot remember your face anymore. 2 Years since we saw each other, and every year I spend here I get more terrified by my actions, just like the people around me. I started to only recruit the bad and the unrighteous for these men accept my actions and love the killing. I now own a customized Frigate, I put my wealth into it so it became the fastest Frigate, though only with 42 guns, it still manages to get the job done.
I work for the dutch now, the men I once killed are the men that protect my interests now. Oh the Irony!
The English, you guessed it, hunt for me wherever they see my ship cross sea, it starts to wear me out.
I`m afraid that I will never be able to return to you, all the filth from the various brothels, the blood on my hands can never be washed clean by the wealth I have amassed. I fear that on that day I step on English territory, I will most likely be either executed by authorities or killed by bounty hunters as I try to live a peaceful life.
I paid now my bounty clean so that I can atleast continue my way of life till I get killed. Bounties are a powerful instrument here, one cant understand where all that people come from that want to kill you. But apparently I made alot of enemies over the years.
I could buy a fleet with the treasue in my ship. But the question is: What can a man do, once he can only call his ship his home, and his crew his family?
Sail!
And sail till the sky turn red and the oceans are filled with blood of the unlucky and weak. I am strong, in fact, my crew now calls me John Strong. A man without fear but the fear of himself, is a man not afraid to loose anything anymore. I shall rape and pillage till I can see clear again, until god himself reveals my purpose or until the purpose is revealed through the path of spilled blood and fear.I still will continue to send you my letters and precious gifts, as I will keep my promise.

What a coincidence. -

AWESOME DT!
I love it! You can bet I know the story well. In fact you know that John Strong is one of the characters you can choose from in GOF Eras.
In that demo video on YouTube I made that showcases the mod, he is the second character that I’m playing as an Englishman after the first guy dies of poison in the caves.
Also a little tid-bit for everyone is that I left one save game in the GOF Eras Download. Its called Player1. That save is of John Strong. He is still just starting out but already has a nice little Ketch that he’s bought and some additional coin he took from one of the Austin quest killers in the cave. So its a good game to start with for a player who doesn’t want to start with the BarcoCostero Sail boat and wants a little extra cash to play with.
I will be posting my own adventure with screenshots as well today. I am trying to finish up my review of Caribbean with pics and video. Hammer emailed me he would be logging on to talk about the Pirate Questline today. We should also have a couple more members contributing soon. At least they tell me they are….

My game is going great. I recently started it, only minutes ago entering my first town š I am very happy to be there as it was somewhat of a process, you know, buying the game, researching which mods to install, downloading and installing the mods correctly, and now I am ready to go adventuring. Thank you Colonel and all who helped with this mod and website. I am a pirate at heart and remember playing Seadogs fondly–for hours. I have recently played Caribbean a bit, but that seemed to barely whet my appetite, priming me. Talk to you all later.

Welcome to the Reef Tom!
I am excited for you. I think you have some GREAT experiences ahead of you! I think its important that people play POTC, because then they realize how much better GOF ERAs 2 is.
For open world sandbox play we have them beat a hundred to one.
The only thing better they have going is their numerous quests. COAS has really good stock quests and by next year I believe we will have even more quests than POTC.
Their textures and ships are shoddy at best. They have great locations, but very soon we will have all those locations in ERAs plus all the ones they don’t have. Our world will be twice their size.
I hope you have a great time! My best advice is to become a good swordsman because that will accelerate your character more than any other single thing. Look at my tutorial in our forum here on swordplay. When you get good you can own almost anyone in the game. Often people will give up on learning the controls and only know the basics. That’s like tying one hand behind your back. You need to be able to perform all of the fancy moves your opponents can.
So much more complex than POTC block and slash. SO much more rewarding when you fully learn the controls and can time exactly when you need to strike and block and exactly how much space you and your enemy require to thrust or slash. Very much like the real thing in this aspect. Timing is everything. NOT just tapping the space bar a thousand times. HOW very BORING!

My game is getting better after a VERY rough start. Im playing FranƧois L’Olannais and im trying to be a pirate/merchant with him, which means i will be mostly trading, but raid the ocasional convoy if oportunity arises. now the..start. oh boy the start, i dont know if the level of dificulty had anything to do it but damn, it was rough.
I started with a pity coast sailing boat ( i believe the name was) with a max crew of 12 and no guns. and being hated by everyone didnt make thing easy thats for sure. i sneaked into french towns, performed various services (that wouldnt require a boat aside from transport) for the money lander and the shipyard master. the pay was miserable for both. i think it was a pitiful 2k poe’s, so i told myself that it was not worth it. i needed to find a way to gain at least a quick 20k poe’s. and i did, at the french town of tortuga. In a laaarge dungeon underneath the city. which apparently, was also a smuggler secret passageway that leads to the nearby beach where my boat is moored. i will definetly use it in the future so this find was very beneficial. but anyway, as i was saying, i found in this dungeon the money to get me going. by killing those foul creatures, and getting their loot over and over again, leveled me up and gave me the quick buck i needed. after getting the money, i headed back to bermuda, and bought a cheap ship for around 12k, the Ketch.
and thats where i am now, ready to set sail with my new ship. i have about 800 of cargo space. its too tight to make any decent profit for trading with the realistic prices and weight turned on. im open to suggestions.

Well my game is going freakin great! I have never had a better experience with COAS than what I am living now!
It is March 1667. I am playing on Commodore difficulty. I am at Level 32. I have destroyed the Bluebird and have begun the Dutch National Quest. I just finished defeating the English attack on Fort Orange. Glad I played this because it took about 20 plays to defeat them. I am going to re-balance the weapons again.
I have a fleet of seven Dutch Warships. Including two of the new first rates that will be in the patch. I recently encountered two formidable English naval Squadrons. If they had been linked together I would have had a serious fight on my hands. However because there were only two English First raters and one second rate, they were no match for my Dutch fleet of DOOM!!! So here’s some screenshots from my present game. MK

My game is going well but can anyone tell me how many things you have to do for the governor before you get a letter of mark? One thing I did notice is the flags used to change from what ever nation they are to white when they struck there colors
(which I know is not historically accurate) but then they used to change to your nations colors when you took the ship. I think they did that on the old GOF. Now they just change after you leave the battle.I remember when I was modding the game that I had to create a file for all the characters to be able to equip rifles and armor. It worked and they could not only equip them but you could see it on them. However, I don’t remember how I did it.
I love this game even more with all the things you added MK. Great Job!!!

@ craig:
I think the letter of marque is randomized, you may get it after 3 quests, or after 5, I once were so unlucky to not get a letter after 8 quests… Fastest way is getting them from a diplomat in a pirate colony š

There is a camera location problem on Le Vaisseau Amiral du Roi. I believe this was a similar issue in the GOF SoleyRu, that was corrected by changing the model camera locator; I seem to recall downloading corrected files for that similar issue that fixed that particular ship.
The Aftermath
Not entirely relevant, but heck, letās go storytime š
I was sailing the seas, minding my own business, when a 2-ship Dutch patrol gets pesky. Fine, letās do thisā¦
Another Day, Another Boarding
Another Day, Another Boarding Party
Their partner takes flightā¦good luck outrunning the Dog of War
The Prey
After eventually dispatching that ship, go back to sea, merely trying to mind my own business, when I get accosted by a 4-ship French patrol. Take a look, and holy smokes! But, in a lapse of good judgment and arrogance, āWhat the heck, letās do this.ā
Tragic lunacy.
Because what I was dealing with, though I knew better and should have just fled, was Le Vaisseau du Roi 1st rater, Almirante Galeon 2nd rater and two French Capitol Warships 3rd ratersā¦with my Corvette Dog of War, Brig Queen, French Cinquente Tireur, VOC Escort Frigate.
For pirating, I must say I like those VOC Escorts. They have good speed, nice holds, decent crew complement, and good armament, yet remain class 5, so I can usually take a couple into enemy ports with my stealth rating. Though they have no bow chasers, I usually do the chasing and simply swap cargo to them, or have them board ships in the midst of battles. I used to have two of them in my squadron, but unfortunately, that Cinquente tried to board one of my companion ships, lost, and of course my companion opted for the higher rated ship and took command. Sigh. Makes going to enemy port a little rougher with the additional 4th rater and weāve had a few fort scrapes because of this.
Donāt mess with my companions. The first perks I give them are God of Death, Musket Volley, Quick Reloading and Foresight; they also all have Grappling bonus items, giving 90-100 grappling scores. We pepper with cannon fire from distance, as it closes, switch to chains, then when the enemy ships are near, I switch everyone to grapes and toggle Foresight on, while they go to town. By the time the ships draw near, I command them to board when itās a lower or equal rating, the opponents are quickly dispatched and sunkā¦except in those cases like the Cinquente, where the enemy foolishly try to board and now I wind up with a nice ship, but unwanted nonetheless, LOL.
Anyway, employed those tactics as these ships were NOT going to be sunk quickly for sure, even with bombsā¦though we did employ them at first this time. We got rid of the Almirante, but not before my VOC was sunk. I thankfully was fairly near this, so picked up my companion captain in the lifeboatā¦phew, back on board! Iām dealing with my own mayhem, lost about half my workable cannons on the Dog of War, rapidly circling and firing grapes everywhere.
I think Corvette is the wrong termā¦that thing is really a Porsche. It is so fast, I usually circle a ship at either the bow/stern in the same direction the enemy is trying to turn broadside on me. Using the wind direction as my guide, I can usually stay perpendicular to them for half a dozen grape shots with my broadsides before their broadside finally reaches me for one shot; I board them right before they do so š But in this case, the ships carry too large a crew, and they were all over the place, so no boarding just yet.
So, in the thick of itā¦bad news. My Cinquente is gone. Frickinā French Warship boarded the already decimated crew from when the Almirante tried to grapple and lost. But even worse, if Iām to get my companion back, I have to head over there and itās upwind, and the 1st rater and 2 remaining Warships are pummeling meā¦Brig Queen is nearly decimated and I instruct to flee. F**** itā¦letās go get herā¦weāll pick up Morgan in the lifeboat and see if we make it out alive. I make a beeline, straight at the Warship that sunk Morganās ship, because they are still situated right where the lifeboat sits. Iām getting broadsided repeatedly by the Vaisseau and a Warship, the other off in the distance, chasing Queen I think.
I reach Morgan, she steps on board and I just keep goingā¦right to board the Warship as Iāve got no chance unless I fight this thing out hand-to-hand. We on the Dog of War are severely outnumbered, but weāve got the skills! My crew are Seadogs, I perk my fighters with everything I find, they get the bonuses, best weapons, armor, and yeah, itās a cheat, but I always go for the Tenochtitlan āpistolā and carry that baby. Also, in cases like these, where the enemy vastly outnumbers, the Berserk perk! I get my bearings and run toward the biggest horde of enemy I see, while running, just getting close, Iāve already got the
key displaying my icons, hovering over Berserk. Run up, click to fire up Berserk and attack. Sweeping blade that hits everyone nearā¦3 fall immediately :). Step back and boom, boom, boom, boomā¦4 shots from my āpistolā, two more drop and I quickly lunge/pierce the remaining two where they stand, then just start hacking at anyone else. We win, all my fighters intact, but quite a large hit to my crew. Hilariously, after my skimpy crew slaughtered the Warshipās, the captain just cowered and surrendered upon my cabin entry. Wuss! LOL I swap ships, I need the larger quantity guns because almost none are working on the Dog. They are slow to reload, but the hull of this ship is in very good shape, so I can take some hits from the Vaisseau. I tell the Dog, in which I left only a handful to operate, to get the heck out of here! Head toward the 1st rater and fire grapes when finally ready. I only get about one more swipe at them, but I have noticed a markedly increase in the amount of time it takes for them to fire, so Iām guessing over the course of this, our grape attacks have put a sizable dent in their crewā¦Iām about to find out.
We board.
Frickinā mayhem. Iāve already lost crew, and so have they, but this ship carries over 1,000. Same tactics as before, and when all is said and done, my fighters remain standing and 10 of my crew. I transfer command of the 1st rater and continue on with my crew of 10 on the Warship to pursue our last nemesis, the other Warship. This one has now given up chase of the Queen, which is now out of battle range and has turned toward me. I fires at me a couple times, but Iāve gone on the suicide mission of āone more time!ā I keep heading toward them, fire once with grapes and know that reload is going to be impossible by the time this ship reaches us. No matter. The other Warship quickly asks to pay in lieu of further attack. I can see why, when such a meager force has taken your entire force down, LOL. But, since I was already sweating this out, I quickly agree. But you know, casually, āSure, why not?ā ?
Phew.
That first photo of the camera problem shows the aftermath. Yikes. Lost all my lovely Seadog crew. I still have my entire set of officers; was able to pick up my two when we lost our VOC and Cinquente. Now we have a French Warship and Le Vaiseau du Roiā¦what the heck am I gonna do with those?! Theyāre not exactly low-profile, LOL
