I dont know if this is posible or if is a complicated work to import all work of gof eras 2 to Pirates oddysey+DLC Caleuche(age of pirates 3).
I say this,because the game Age of pirate 3 is the same of COAS but with a lot of improvements in storm engine 2.8,quests and other stuff.
Gof 2 eras is the most complete and best mod so far I ve played about pirates in golden era of piracy.A combination of Pirates oddysey+Gof Eras 2 will be perfect.
But well,the problems are:
-The game released in 2012 but only in Russia language and seems the company dont have plans to release it in english after 3 years(shame).This game has an specific players and the graphics are very old compared to the games actually so I think i will never see this game released in western countries.-The PROGRAM folder is the key, but they coded it and the players cant access to this esencial folder.
I dont understand this reason because the age of pirates vanilla are a big s**t buggy games.
This games are great because the modders that change the game completely and improve the game in all the ways that the engine storm can handle.I saw you post in steam about 2-3 years ago asking for translations but without no success 🙁
So,today the only possibility for westerns is access to PROGRAM folder and translate all dialogs from russian to english.I think im going to investigate this and how to get these archives,but no translate from russian to english because my english is poor as you can see.
What do you think?
Is possible to import with relative “easy” dificult the mod Gof 2 eras into Pirates Oddysey if we have access to program folder?Thanks again for all the work

I would love this more than about anything. You know I obtained permission from them to take what I wished from their resource files. That’s why you see many of the PO:TEHO weapons, characters and ships in GOF: ERAS2.
My own opinion is that they were almost finished with the translation and would have released it with the Program files. Joruba on PA!, one of the Blackmark Studios developers had assured us this would happen and I believe him.
Not to be full of myself and/or self important, but I think what finally killed this effort was PA! more or less abandoning the Akella game modding efforts. The final nail in the coffin was them banning me. I say this because I was the only remaining champion of COAS and the Storm games left on PA! that still wanted to do more with the newer offerings and continue the effort with STORM 2.8 based games and mods.
I think when Blackmark saw PA! give me the old “heave ho” they decided it wasn’t worth their effort to try to promote their efforts on PA! (which was seen as the main Pirate themed video game promotion site online at the time). They knew that PA! would not help with promoting Pirates Odyssey OR modding it because they were focused on their new indy game and even encouraging (almost railroading) new members with any modding abilities to work on the new game rather than Storm Engine based games. Their criticism of the Storm Engine as being out dated I think sealed the deal. Several of us tried to step in and tell them that the Storm Engine has so much more untapped potential – it just needs effort behind it…..fell on deaf ears.
Consider that in building Buccaneers Reef that I have never intended for this to become a large populated website. I intended from the beginning that we would be a small niche community (almost a family or clan) dedicated to the Golden Age and our chosen video games. The site’s popularity has already surpassed all my expectations and I don’t even have the the majority of the forums published up yet.
Having said that, I do have a small hope that when I get the forums completely finished here and that if we can get some more interested members in here, that we might have a small chance of talking Black Mark Studios into promoting the English version here and still releasing it on STEAM.
As things stand now – you hit the nail on the head. I can’t do any significant porting or transfer work without the PROGRAM files for that game. All of the ships, weapons, characters, (and soon locations), were only imported successfully because I wrote my own program content for all of that stuff from scratch. If I have models and textures, I can put things in ERAs….and I can make my own textures.
I wouldn’t call porting everything into Pirates Odyssey from GOF ERAS exactly “easy” – it would mostly be very time consuming. However it would be VERY doable if I had those PROGRAM files.
WE can attempt to start some dialogue with Blackmark Studios. I wouldn’t have been able to finish ERAs without the help of a bunch of Russian modders that I recognized by name in the “READ ME” file. Some of them are playing ERAS even.
We will just have to see how things turn out.

Hmm but do you think you can import at least their ship models from caleuche? “worst case scenario?”
I played odyssey since im russian and can while only read like a 5th grader, I still manage to understand everything they write and say in the texts, sometimes it took me there minutes just reading and understanding what the game wanted from me. The main quest there was more or less a linear pain in the ass since it was harder than peter bloods questline cuz of the time requirement and no real guide on how to solve stuff. There was even sometimes the problem that the quest log didnt tell me what exactly to do, so i had to always not it down with a pen and paper XDDDDOh how glad i am that i can play ERAS!!!
Would be great if you could ask them if they wanted to share their english translated version. I dont even know if they still have the same staff working there, was quite some time since they released caleuche 😉

News.
I found russian mods with program folder,but the Pirates oddisey game dont read the archives properly from PROGRAM folder,so they put did a trick,renamed x_ to all archives,for example
rename “error_dialog.”c => “x_error_dialog.c” and then link this inside archive “dialog.c”(now x_dialog.c) for proper recognitions like this:
1.in x_dialog.c the first line(or lines):#include dialog.c => #include x_dialog.c
2.in the line if( !LoadDialogFiles(“error_dialog.c”) => if( !LoadDialogFiles(“x_error_dialog.c”)
….And the same with ALL archives inside PROGRAM folder and the game read Program folder properly
Also the Seadogs.c is esencial because contains a lot of lines with “#include” that must be linked and need rename
#include “characters\characters.c” => #include “characters\x_characters.c”ANd finally Engine.ini only need one change in “run=seadogs.c”
run=seadogs.c => run=x_seadogs.c,this make the game init run x_seadogs(this x_seadogs.c previously modified with all the lines “#include x_XxXxX” linked)like this for example:
#include “characters\x_characters.c”
#include “interface\x_interface.h”All the lines “#include xxxxxxxx” must have modified with x_ like above and the game read the entire program folder.
Thats all.I hope you can understand what i say hahahhaha
This is the way the russian modders make mods and work properly with program folder in Pirates Oddisey.
So if they did it,they previously has decoded and extracted Program folder to make his mods. -

Very interesting but I can’t find any of that content Blas.
Perhaps you can send me some files… or hang them somewhere I can get access to them.
I went to the link you gave me Dennis because trying to purchase Caleuche on regular Steam for the US resulted in an error message that said “Not available for your Region”
The link you gave me took me to the store for Europe/Russia and I downloaded. However I cannot find where the files went to. When I open Pirates Odyssey it says on the bottom +DLC added.
However when I look in the Pirates Odyssey folders I don’t see any new ships at all.
Where are they?
Can you show me some pics of these new ships?

Means there is a new tier 1 ship called “Battle Galeon”
Most likely this ship is called “военный Корабль” which means “battle ship” in english.
One could easily say its the same as the Flying dutchman, but the Caleuche is lighter armed and this is its stats and cooler textures (I did some research^^):This is how she looks up close:
Now to finally prove there this ship really exists in game files, lets compare it to the stats of the Dutchman from COAS:
As you can see its Dutchman is classified as warship, while the Caleuche is defined as a class 1 Battleship with only 56 guns 😉 while being a fast galleon.

Still the dutchman is the stronger OP ship, While being just Class 2, I think we could reclassify it as a rank 3-4 Galeon, since that would fit this ship. The quest itself is quite a pain so i wouldnt really suggest porting it over to COAS, i got headaches just by watching the dude on youtube getting lost in that shit ass labyrinth.
BAsicly summary of the Caleuche quest.
You meet a guy after doing one of the main COAS Quests one of the 3 tricky quests, Austin or one of the other 2 i forgot their names. He tells you about Caleuche a story about a Flying dutchman like Galeon. You fight it, after killing the crew you meet the captain, who is immortal, then you get knocked out and land ashore.
You get a tier 6 boat and have to find out how to defeat the ship. Basicly what you do is get to some shaman who sends you on a quest to get 3 skulls and place em in a temple. Once this happens the entire ship crew becomes immortal. You kill the crew again, kill their captain and get their ship. Quest solved.The main problem why this quest may take up to 6 hours is cuz theres a frikken temple with a labyrinth and some teleportation mumbo jumbo… So basicly it seems some of the dev guys there took acid and created this quest… Story itself is not bad, but the level design at the temple is horrible. So I suggest we take the galleon and create our own believable Caleuche story. 😉

Theres also a Wiki/Forum full of russians dedicated to the AOP games especially to each his own, their russians, but i guess they dont even know that we exist with our Eras mod. Maybe i should say hello there and ask them if they would like to contribute and give us some intel 😉

We already have that battle ship in the game. In fact I made 2 versions of it with 6 skins altogether. It is the English 3rd Rate and the French Ordere Seconde.
As far as the new Flying Dutchman is concerned it looks pretty cool but would have to be a quest ship. I don’t want it to be running around as a fleet ship that belongs to a nation.
I looked at the model and I could do a really realistic reskin for it that might make it suitable as an old galleon, but it has all that sea weed crap growing off the rear gallery and the bowsprit.
Probably wouldn’t be that hard getting it off in MAYA, but I’m still a novice and want to finish my first project before taking on anything else.
The only modeler I had helping me out had to go back to school, so she has no more time for these things right now.
Lets put it on the back burner for now. I want to import those locations anyway. So when I’m finally good enough to write new quests that work and don’t crash the game then we will tie the quests to these new places and this new Flying Dutchman model.
That wiki they have is somewhat what I intend with the illustrated guide for ERAS I’m currently working on.

I didnt mean the right ship, I was speaking only of the dutchman-galeon that is new in the dlc. I know that the frigate on the right side of the screenshot is already ingame, in fact i played it for quite some time, but straight lined the dutch frigate is superior in alot of aspects to the french and english counter versions 😉 Uhm yeh, just wanted to give ya some info, since im russian and have it easier to cope with that languag 😉

So I was contacted by Joruba. He is the guy leading up the English translation of PO:TEHO. He has signed up and has a membership here at the reef.
I am very excited to say that Blackmark Studios still plans to release the English version! I have been accepted as a tester of the new English version.
So maybe there could be a great future to modding PO:TEHO and expanding ERAS by transferring the content to the newer 2.8 game.
This is good news indeed to any that want to see the STORM 2.8 games still grow, develop and expand!
There is a lot more to game design and a FUN gaming experience than the latest graphics. These games are just plain awesome!
I look forward to Joruba possibly joining in the discussion.

I guess there is a such possibilty, once we release the game with open scripts and Program folder.
But there are lot of changes in the code compared to the last version, so it won’t be easy.I look forward to Joruba possibly joining in the discussion.

Thanks for jumping in! Very good to see you here my friend.
I agree it would take a lot of work. That is one of the reasons I’ve said that I will not do another major mod by myself.
So to all those that would like to see this happen I will offer a separate forum here that I will put up soon that will be for recruitment of a new modding team that will take STORM 2.8 modding to the next level.
If people are interested in accomplishing this, I will be happy to take a leadership role in the effort, but there will have to be a dedicated team of people besides myself to do all the work.
Building ERAS has taught me so much. It was very difficult and took years. I didn’t do it completely by myself and there were people that helped me. However, most of the work (like 85% was me). I made COAS the historical game I had always wanted. I won’t do something like that again without much more help. I might be willing to do 40 or 50 percent of the work but that’s it.
I know from the amount of interest that we are getting here in such a short time that there are a lot of people watching. However, how many from out of this group have the abilities to help – or would be willing to take the time needed to help, remains to be seen.
Last as Joruba stated, we will have to have the new English version of the game first. I am looking very forward to testing it. Before I even consider modding anything, I want to enjoy the game and play it through completely – in its present natural state, before I even consider changing anything. I’m certain it will take several months for me to play it all the way through. During this time I want to start a separate forum here only about playing the English version of PO:TEHO. We will share stories, answer questions and share screenshots.
Only after I feel like I really know everything in the game and we’ve actually had a chance to have some real fun with it will I consider heavily modding it.
We’ve got to put the horse in front of the carriage, not behind it. Step A comes before Step B.

I have read on the German forum called De Zeerovers (something like that) that there will be an English release of the Pirates Odyssey around january 2016. Don’t know if that’s true though.

That is very nice to know, MK! I was a bit afraid that the translation had been abandoned. I don’t know if PO:TEHO brings any new feature, but I believe that it is better than original COAS, even though both games run on Storm 2.8 engine. I saw a cannon in a video showin a land battle. That would be a cool thing. I tried playing the Russian version of PO:TEHO, but I didn’t quite understand the language, so I gave up. I like Eras Mod because it gives you the option to choose other characters (maybe too much for my taste, around 75, but that’s ok :D), and some new storylines would be good.

I don’t think they ever abandoned it. From what I have been able to discern “through the Grape Vine” is it has been political and proprietary issues preventing its total completion and release. If it is indeed released I plan to host a complete new modding effort for it in English here and will do my utmost to shamelessly promote it using every tool in my power.

That’s great news, MK! Do you, by any chance, have any info about the new improvements of the Storm 2.8 engine? What will be the new features? I know that you’ve contributed a lot in making this game happen for English speaking players and that you had a good communication with the developers. The transition that Blas de Lezo mentioned at the beginning of this thread would be an awesome thing to see.
