UPDATED 11 July 2017: MK
I was recently asked about how difficult it is to modify and add ships to the game and what the steps are. So in this thread you will find links to the following:
– Links for tools that you can download which will assist in modeling, modifying or converting ships.
– Tutorials and Discussions about modeling, modifying, converting, and importing ships into the game.
– Youtube video tutorials on how to use some of the tools (especially modeling).
This is also an open discussion forum, so anything that anyone might want to add such as additional links for more tutorials, videos, etc, helpful tips, discussion or even questions are just fine and dandy.

Porting Ships into COAS: *NOTE: I will write my own tutorial here soon because the one in the link is old and not all inclusive – leaving out some steps. It will give you the basics to figure it out http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/potc-ships-to-aop-coas.13390/

VIDEO TUTORIALS: *NOTE: The free versions of MAYA5 and Photoshop that are available are getting quite old now and the video tutorials illustrate newer versions with more tools/tabs/controls, etc. However, the tools are still very similar and the videos are still useful in helping you to figure out how to use your tools. I learned most of what I know about doing all that I’ve accomplished with models and texturing from youtube videos. Feel free to add more! Let’s build some stuff for the game!!! MK

great, now i have everyting needed, i will wait until you post the conversion steps, i navigated through the PA! threads but those were confusing, just a direction, you should explain everything from the ground, i mean the installation of programs are intuitive but you should explain what exactly you want so me or others who see this can help you. I mean, you know how the coding works, if you know what a ship should have modeled because it has a reference to it in the code, but you dont know how to do it in maya, just post at least the terms so we can look for them in internet. Im supposing this as you said you dont have the knowledge concerning modeling… Just explain what you know and be precise
thanks for the links and the info.
oh and the potbs models can be taken out of the downloaded game or are them sort of “encryted” in some rare model format like total war series does with his models?, damn i would like to take out the ships models of empire total war, too bad you have to pay 50€ for a tool to get them.
