Something I’ve been working on is the direct sail, sea-to-sea transitions, to eliminate the entire scene unload/load.

First part of the video demonstrates the existing/old direct sail sea-to-sea transitions that unloads the old scene and loads a whole new scene, with a transition loading image. The second part demonstrates a new method being developed to eliminate the interlude scene load, by just unloading the old island, loading the new island at real-time.
The old method, reloading the entire scene, also returns all your squadron ships to their default positions, while the new method preserves their existing positions.
Unfortunately, the way the game was originally designed, the transition can’t be entirely seamless, as the constraint is the fact that each island model is not accurately located in the “world”, so there is technically a teleport to reposition correctly, but with this change to the existing engine, it’s a good first step to remove the complete “unload” of the sea scene, by only removing the old, distant island and loading just the new island.
