Question 1: I finished the English questline a few ingame months ago. Since then, the English have made peace with all other nations. Just for fun, I decided I’d capture a city for myself(not England.) I assaulted the city of Marigot on San Martin from the jungle first. I won, but upon talking to the governor, I had no option to take over the city. I tried shooting him and talking to one of my fighters, but got no option to set him as a governor. Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: I reloaded and tried to bombard the fort and do a naval landing, but after destroying about half of the fort cannons, I was no longer in combat with the fort and I had no option to do an amphibious landing. Pressing moor just dumped me in the city. Did I mess this up somehow?
Question 2: I would like to start the pirate questline, but after talking to the leader in Bermuda (as it says to do on the AOP2 Wiki) I get no option other than to tell him I’m just dropping in to say hi. Am I able to start the pirate quest line?
EDIT #2: I’ll leave this up here in case anyone else has the same question. On a whim, I went to Puerto Principe and found Captain Goodley walking the streets there. I talked to him and started the pirate quest line.

Update: Just tried twice to capture Marigot again after completing the Pirate quest line (Morgan still hasn’t returned yet). First, I attacked from the jungle. Upon talking to the governor, I only had the option of looting the town.
I reloaded after this and tried attacking the fort from the sea. After bombarding it until roughly half of it’s guns were destroyed, I got a message in the upper lefthand corner that said the fort was destroyed and that I gained experience. However, there was no option to “board” the fort, even when I sailed right next to it. My only option was to moor, which just did it’s normal thing. I had the “black” flying this whole time.
I am still unsure if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong. Please advise?

There might be some particulars about when nations are all allies/neutral that, or some other facet that I will probably need a save (preferably if you have one just after you destroyed a fort and can’t board) and trace through some attributes and other elements to determine the cause because I’m not really sure. We’ve not done anything specifically different in how the original COAS handles the fort boarding situation, so I’m an not wholly familiar with all the situations that might contribute to your situation. Send me a save and I’ll see what I can find.

Jeffrey: I’ll head back to Marigot tonight and bombard the fort until it’s destroyed, assuming I have no option to board again, I’ll send you the file. Maybe it won’t let me board because not all of the guns were destroyed?
MK: Hi, I had already completed the English questline with this character prior to completing the pirate questline. The accelerate PANQL mod was already set to on prior to attempting the pirate questline. With that said, I was unsuccessful in conquering Marigot when I tried after completing the English quests, but prior to starting the pirate quest. It is worth noting however that England and the Dutch were at peace when I attempted this.
You’re right about the replayability of the game! I have had a few ideas that would be fun for a playthrough, chiefly a game where I start as a pirate and never remove the black flag. I think it would be fun to see how far I can get.

Hi Marty,
Interesting. You’re treading on new ground as far as my experience goes. As long as I’ve played this game, the replayabilty factor is so extremely high that I have done a bunch of things this year I had never done before. I have still never played the Spanish quest line and have a character all ready to do so now. I plan to video my play through in a Lets Play series on the Spanish Questline.
I have never taken a city as a pirate. You have basically completed the pirate quest line because when Morgan comes back he tells you there is no more brethren of the coast. The first time that happened to me I go so angry that flying Dutch colors with a Dutch letter of marque I tried to take Port Royal. I bombarded the fort two separate times with huge ships and could never destroy it.
Jeffrey told me there was a very old problem with the forts that prevented many of the guns from being destroyed. He fixed that just last month. However, I suspect your problem is either with game mechanics preventing you from conquering the town because you are a pirate, OR there being something else screwed up because of the national questlines/pirate questline.
So have you done any of the nation questlines in your current game? I can only offer one possible thing to try that might change something. Try going to mod options and selecting Accelerate PANQL which allows you to play each national questline in succession – something the original game never allowed. I have never done this before myself and plan to this year some time. Let us know what happens. I will talk to Jeff about it next time we talk (we speak on the phone almost every day).
