So, I went on a random convoy hunt with Henry Avery. The enemy ended up boarding and capturing his ship, the Ganj-i-sawai, which I then commandeered with glee. I just recently got it out of port control, now that I have the navigation skill needed to handle her.
Question is…what is she? All I know is that it’s a class 2 76-gun ship, because the description field for the ship has no text in it. I’m guessing a lower tier 3rd-rate ship of the line, which brings about another question; by historical account, this was an Asian dhow, and I don’t think they got that large, did they? Whatever it is, the ship is amazing after getting her speed and point of sail improved, and keeping it in my squadron is definite even if I get a man-o-war later. What say ye, brethren?

Looks like that ship type is supposed to be removed from the game, since it is assigned no nations and .canencounter = false; However, it also looks like Henry Avery, being a “hero” NPC is specifically assigned that same ship type, which is undoubtedly an oversight. I will have to speak to MK what he wants to do about that. In any case, the ship type is SHIP_HEAVYWARSHIP – “HeavyWarship”.

I originally wanted it not to appear in game. There are quite a number of ships that fall into that category – mainly the late 18th century frigates. They used to only appear in the rare Gentlemen of Luck (Now Bold Privateers) flotillas. Jeffrey and I had a discussion last year and decided to widen the filter number for what ships could be considered to appear in these encounters.
I didn’t mind them so much because they were so rare and also I thought it gave enthusiasts of the later era a chance to get these ships and play with them even though they’ve been transported back in time by a time machine. However, now that I am encountering them much more in gameplay because of widening the filter, I think they are contaminating gameplay.
The main reason I have left them in place was because of my development of ERAS3 (1750-1815). However, even though ERAS3 is 85 percent complete (Ships, flags, weapons, items are mostly finished – only period characters and uniforms need finished), I have discontinued work on the project because of lack of interest from the community and my depression after Orazio disappeared from our team.
I told Jeffrey that I could make a new mod where I substituted those ships for corsair versions of other ships. In fact I have made a whole slew of new corsair ships with subdued or dark colors/textures. While Jeffrey likes the idea of substitutions when we add new ships because it doesn’t modify the game structure and ensures peoples saves will always work in the future, he said I didn’t need to go to all of that work because he can make a delete attribute that I can assign to each undesired ship.
I assigned that ship to Henry Avery because I liked the way it looked as something very different. It is supposed to be the Great Moghul of India’s treasure ship that Avery captured and is trying to unload in the Caribbean. I was going to get rid of it, but after looking at it closely I think I can make some really nice new skins for it. So I am working on it right now.
Anyway, I will give some teasers of the new corsair ships because the ones I’ve already finished are going into the game regardless. I hope this helps to clarify things. Glad folks are still enjoying this old game and having fun with our content. I will never stop making it because its still my favorite game and I play often – I just don’t share so much these days for many reasons I will go into in a website update I am getting ready to publish.

I will post pics of the new Ganj-i-sawai and her sisters soon.

Mr. Knight,
I for one would be very interested in ERAS 3 and also expanded merchant role-play in ERAS 2 which you wrote abt. some time ago. I think it was to be based on diaries/books of an Engish RL merchant.

Those look amazing! I’d love to see what you’ve done with G-i-S, and I’m into this game for the long haul. I’ve only crashed on one session so far, everything looks fantastic, and I’m really having a lot of fun overall with it.

So I finished the ship. It turned out pretty good. The screenshots turned out kind of dark. Anyhow, here’s a few.

Holy crap, that looks badass; the ship looks like a million…daalders lol. And it should, too. I wonder about the inside; would it have had Indian influence for the interior cabin?
