Check your start.ini file and make sure these values are pointed to the correct paths, either relative to the directory the game sits:

resource_directory = RESOURCE
ini_directory = RESOURCEINI

Or full path:

That master and commander sound clip IS indeed being replaced in a sound mod I am still working on which will have crews talking through gun drills in their native languages including the words “FIRE” “FUEGO”, etc. I’ve spent a lot of time recording movie clips in foreign or translated movies over the last couple years with this mod in mind.

I agree with Stéphane, that most likely you have the option to ‘reduce skill bonus’ turned on. I think that the default is to reduce the bonus, so it will limit each item to +10. If you turn on ‘stack’, then you will probably see the true described bonus for each item.

Check the mod option , i suppose you have the limited bonus on … if i can give an advice, you will have a better feeling and a better game experience without items or books to buff stats, the only items i keep are cats or rat totem, or items giving a bonus stat in p.i.r.a.t.e.s like the spectacles giving a +1 Insight

nevermind all skill enhancing item when given to officers only give 10

Sextant doesnt give the appropriate bonus when given to an officer it gives only 10 not 30 navigation

Is there any way to revert the encounter sound on worldmap to vanilla the current one from master and commander is far too long for that i usually get 3-4 more encounter and the first sound still plays

Thanks, i will try again with a smaller ship then, i sunk them often trying to be close, and may be because i was not side by side in the same direction they didn’t give the pearls but good to know i have to be better and it is not a game bug

This actually reminded me of something; It would be great if we could fix cannons during battle. Once I bought extra cannons for the hold so if some got destroyed I could quickly replace, but it would not sucessfully attach them while in battle.
