I have good news! I figured out a way to mitigate the foliage problem while at sea and the FPS is much better now. Will be in the next Maelstrom update.

Just wanted to share this random screenshot I made. It looked so real to me, to see a ship on such distance from port (Marigot).

It happens in all the South American continent. And no, just reducing the foliage does not help, only when completely disabled will make fps back to normal.

Someone also noticed FPS drops during storms, that also improved if foliage was disabled.

Does this same thing also occur around other parts of the South American continent, like Belize?

Also, instead of disabling, does reducing the foliage quality help?

Edit: I suspected that foliage was causing the problem and I was right. Turning it off will make fps run smooth. So I guess no foliage in that part of the Caribbean.

I’m having considerable fps drop when sailing close to Maracaibo and the other southern parts of the Caribbean. It’s strange because the game works so smoothly everywhere else, and I haven’t had any game crash since I started playing it a few days ago.
My specs:
Intel Xeon E3 1270 3.4GHz
AMD Radeon R9 270x GPU 2GB DDR5
8GB DDR3 RAM

I was thinking also how nice it would be to have this music in Eras mod. It’s music from an old pirate game called Cutthroats: Terror on the high seas.

It’s been 2 years since I last time played Eras Mod. For the first time now I’m playing it on the Maelstrom engine and I have to say that I can’t believe what this modding team has done with an old game that still happens to be the best sailing and pirating simulator on the game market. Thank you for this wonderful work!

There was an error before with the Fast Armed English Merchantman I think, the mercantile clone of the English scout frigate, that was related to rigging textures missing. It might be the same case here, worth to check out at least.

Sailing for Spain I join a battle between Portugal-Pirates. Portuguese flag is neutral, Pirates hostile. I decide to help the Portuguese.
While manouvering to a good attack position I come close to the Portuguese and they open fire upon me. Why? They are flagged neutral all the time.

Not the Armed English merchantman but the Armed english trader. Its missing some of the rigging.

Hello everyone! I notice that some of the rigging on the ships are missing and was wondering if there was any way of fixing it? Specifically on the armed english merchant. And I’m experiencing some fps slow downs. I have a decent pc, well decent enough to be able to run this game, and was wondering if there was any way to fix this or help it.
