DBParticipantSo I was playing Sid Meier’s Pirates! a few days ago for the first time in years and was reminded just how great the music is in that game. Is there a way I could import the music into ERAS? I found all the the music files from SMP and aside from converting them to ogg, would it be simple enough to implement?

KeymasterNot too much trouble. If you want to try your own for test:
Using file explorer, navigate to RESOURCE\Sounds\MUSIC
Create a folder and call it SMPirates. Put all your converted music files inside the folder.
Navigate to RESOURCE\INI and create a folder called SMPirates. Copy everything inside the COAS folder into your new SMPirates folder.
Using a text editor, open up the file RESOURCE\INI\SMPirates\music_alias.ini
Change all the file names for the various sections to the music you want to play during those instances.
Example:
[music_main_theme]
prior = 192
name = MUSIC\03-Main Theme.oggChange to
[music_main_theme]
prior = 192
name = MUSIC\SMPirates\my new main theme.oggWhen you are done, and want to try it, open up the ERAS start.ini and find the section [sound_aliases]
Add the name of the folder you created for the music alias file you edited inside RESOURCE\INI\SMPirates\:
soundAliasPath = ERAS\
soundAliasPath = GOF\
soundAliasPath = COAS\
soundAliasPath = Classical\
soundAliasPath = CTales\
soundAliasPath = POTC\
soundAliasPath = MC\
soundAliasPath = NoMusic\
soundAliasPath = Shanty\
soundAliasPath = SMPirates\Save the file, run config.exe and in the sound dropdown, you should see it listed now. Select it, Save, launch ERAS and check it out.

DBParticipantCool! Thanks for the detailed write up. I’ll give it a shot later today and see how it goes.

ParticipantI gave this a test and it only worked for the main menu. When trying to replace the music for sea battles it acted as though I did nothing. The strange thing was changing the alias in the config.exe worked, but modifying the individual music alias files did not apart from the menu music

KeymasterIf it did “nothing” I suspect that you may have modified the wrong music_alias.ini. Check the start.ini for this setting:
aliasDirectory = Shanty\
That value is the name of the folder for the music_alias.ini it will use.
RESOURCE\INI\Shanty\music_alias.ini
Verify the folder indicated in start.ini is the same place for the edited file.

DraiksParticipantI really liked the French shanties. Sadly there’s too few… I found on Youtube over 15 French shanties. I think its a very good idea if you guys would add it for the French.
