VincentParticipantI’ve never gotten to this point in the game by myself yet, but I’ve heard that around levels 30-40 the game gets really tough in melee combat. I’ve read an article somewhere claiming that part of the issue arises from the NPC opponents getting access to personal abilities that make them really monstrous at higher levels, in particular Heavy Hand. Is this true? And what else is there that causes this issue?
I’m really just curious to find out what causes this occurrence in the first place, and also to learn about what would/could be done to help alleviate the issue (like preventing enemy NPCs from having certain perks) – and if not, can someone tell me why? I’ve seen a lot of complaints on other sites about the insane difficulty of TEHO, so I kinda feel that this particular issue should at least be placed on a to-do list for the future, if not handled as soon as possible, since it seems obvious that it would make our game a better and more desirable product.
Thoughts, people?

FilipeParticipantIn my opinion the only issue I suffer from those high-level enemies is the perk battering ram because it changes the way you fight against them, exemple: in the early game you can abuse the block move even if there are too many enemies you could dispatch one by one just with the right timing betweing blocking and thrusting but after they get the hands on that dirty perk thats decided soleny on chance ( as dirty as the crit based on max health by the way ) (and for players I dont think its usefull anyway) can bypass your defences like its nothing and even worse it seems like they “know” when it’s triggered, what I mean with that is that they only thrust you when its sure they will bypass you defences so its even harder to get an opening from their part to get a counter attack because when you do so you’re open to getting hit by the others, so u cant choose when to hit and when to block.

modernknight1KeymasterActually IMHO, I think YOU as the player become WAY more powerful at level 30-40 than any of your opponents. I like that the game sends you more powerful opponents, because if it didn’t – it would stop being a challenge at all when you get to those levels. The thing that makes a game really fun at this point is that you can use a sword you prefer that isn’t the most powerful and still own most opponents. I will often sail around in a smaller class ship at this stage as well relegating my large powerful ships to port controllers for when I need or want to use one or more.

VincentParticipantI’m approaching this area myself now, so I’ll finally be able to give a personal assessment soon. My comment was based on hearing a number of folks I’ve talked to tell me about such things, so perhaps I shouldn’t worry. My question was asked mostly out of curiosity, as I am only now approaching those levels for the first time.
Thanks for thew replies, guys!
